It's a whole month (ish) since I last posted. I have nothing new to add to the fallout from the US Presidential elections except for the fact that when I woke up on the Wednesday morning it was from a dream that Hillary Clinton had won and was giving a press conference, accompanied by Chelsea, from a hotel's rose garden. In the UK us sensible chaps have been cheering on the various legal and parliamentary attempts to prevent the triggering of Article 50.

I had my first mince pie of the season today at work, and am part-way through Christmas shopping. I'm waiting to hear what my sister and her partner would like - Mum reckons they'll ask for giftcards or vouchers. It's four weeks until our Christmas lunch at work, too, which I'm looking forward to but am sad that one workfriend will be unable to join us.

I am continuing my cross-stitching in fits and starts. Wednesday evening's session was the first for a couple of weeks and at one point I used the wrong shade of dark green, but hopefully I've countered that by using another moderately dark green in another place.

Last week my long-anticipated copy of A Month In The Country arrived - I have it on the original issue DVD, but this is a much better quality picture and has audio commentary and a few interviews, including one with Colin Firth, as extras. It's a double-disc set that contains a DVD and a Blu-Ray disc and I cannot recommend it highly enough.

Resurrecting an old idea cos I found I'd made notes for another post. Originally from [personal profile] karaokegal:

1.) Look up ten of your favorite films on IMDB.
2.) Go to "trivia" and pick out the most interesting fact about each film.
3.) Copy + paste!

Ten more )

To see the others, click here for the IMDB tag on my LJ.

I just saw my first ever Harry Potter film, Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone. Some of you will be well aware of this, with me tweeting while watching.

This is the longer post I promised on Twitter. Spoilers ahead, although I gather I'm the only person on the planet of reading age never to have seen this movie. )

I hope that clarifies a few things I couldn't express properly on Twitter. I'd be happy to see the other films, I don't know what's TV-age or what's only on DVD etc so I'll wait until the next one hoves into view in whatever form. So long as it's whatever the second film is, I'll watch it if I'm around.

This might be the last lot of straightforward movies, though as IMDb also covers TV, I might pick some TV stuff.

Yet more movie trivia. Shut up, it's my LJ.

Less usual medical uses for a rubber band )

I will be back with more. TV shows, possibly. I suppose I should revisit and put in links to the film entries on IMDb? Hmm.

I have one Twitter Follow Friday recommendation: Scott Kelly (@StationCDRKelly), cos I was in such a crappy depressed mood today, and a tweet he DM'd turned my mood round completely.

I suppose one day I will get round to watching E.T. Right now I've got The Jungle Book and Sleeping Beauty to watch, thanks to an offer Sainsburys had on Disney DVDs. Will try to get at least one of them watched over the weekend.

Movie Trivia 2: The Sequel )
I had to miss out on a few films because they either had no trivia section or nothing of real interest. The films listed are among those I like, rather than my top films ever.

Swing Kids

My latest package from Amazon included the DVD of Swing Kids, which I watched last night.

Cut for spoilerage )

The reviews for Swing Kids weren't all completely enthusiastic. But if you're a RSL fan, it's a must-see. It makes you realise how much the House production & writing people have, with Hugh Laurie and Robert Sean Leonard in major roles in their show. Such enormous talent, the best there is of their generation. I hope they make good use of it.

Just watched the Charlie & the Chocolate Factory DVD I bought last week. Fab film :) Johnny Depp is cool & awesome but is totally acted off the screen by Liz Smith.

This weekend - after fifteen years of waiting - I finally saw Dead Poet's Society.

I really didn't plan to wait so long )
