Yet more movie trivia. Shut up, it's my LJ.
1. Monty Python's Life Of Brian
After the first take of the scene where a nude Brian (Graham Chapman) addresses the crowd from his window, Terry Jones pulled Chapman aside and said "I think we can see that you're not Jewish", referring to Chapman being uncircumcised. This was corrected in subsequent takes with the application of a rubber band.
2. Mary Shelley's Frankenstein
The amniotic fluid in which the Creature was brought to life was really boiling jello. During filming, De Niro and Branagh slipped and fell in the stuff so much that a huge split appeared in De Niro's monster suit, which had to be avoided by the cameras.
3. Dad's Army
Arthur Lowe had a clause written into his contract which stated that he would never appear without his trousers on. This is why Sgt. Wilson is leading the platoon during the platoon's changeover march (when the platoon change from civvies to uniform via their long-johns) instead of Captain Mainwaring.
4. Carry On Camping
Filming took place during Autumn and leaves had to be stuck back onto the trees and sprayed green in order to recreate Summer.
5. The Muppet Christmas Carol
Michael Caine considers the role of Scrooge to be one of his most memorable (to him) roles.
6. The African Queen
According to Katharine Hepburn's autobiography, John Huston initially found her performance too serious-minded. One day, he visited her hut and suggested that she model her performance on Eleanor Roosevelt; putting on her "society smile" in the face of all adversity. After Huston left, Hepburn sat for a moment before deciding, "That is the best piece of direction I have ever heard."
7. The Jungle Book
The Vultures song "That's What Friends Are For" was originally written with Beatles-style beat, but Disney insisted it was changed, so as not to date it to the Sixties. It was rewritten as a barbershop quartet, to make it timeless.
8. A Taste Of Honey
Hazel Blears, who later became a member of the UK parliament and a minister in Tony Blair's government, appears in the film as a 5-year-old urchin along with her brother. She can be seen wearing a tartan skirt and playing with a ball during the films opening credits.
9. Bend It Like Beckham
Star Parminder Nagra was worried that the scar on her leg would prevent her from getting the role of Jess. Instead, the scar - and the story behind it - were worked into the script.
10. The Full Monty
A number of American cinemas had special leaflets printed containing translations to some of the British slang left in the U.S version of the film so that audiences would be able to follow the dialog more easily.
I will be back with more. TV shows, possibly. I suppose I should revisit and put in links to the film entries on IMDb? Hmm.
