First thing changing is the date for the extremely stressful database-and-website project at work, which is now launching in November because there's so much work to do beforehand. This means I won't be on leave when it all happens, and it suits me more because other crucial things will have been completed by then. It was set to start early October because some lunatic had the idea that people only go away on holiday in July and August. Thankfully it's been put back so hopefully this means we can get it to work properly.

There was a HUGE spider on the wall at work today :( :( :( It was right at the top, on the little inner wall that separates off the photocopier room from the main office. And we don't have a spider-catcher. I hope it's gone by tomorrow and doesn't return.

Am not at Zumba again, because I like how my knee doesn't hurt at all when I don't go. Still no news, according to her website, of my former yoga teacher finding a regular venue to restart kettle classes, I'd be interested in going to them so I can develop my technique properly. Her website right now is full of stuff about the Christmas party, cos she always holds it the first weekend in December to make sure it doesn't clash with anything else like family or work or neighbourhood Christmas happenings people may have, which is a good idea but I'm trying not to think about Christmas just yet.

Not thinking about Christmas is easier to do when you don't go into Boots or Marks & Spencer. Yesterday I went into both, they have Christmas stuff edging onto shelves but thankfully no Christmas catalogues yet. I really needed some new boots cos mine are wearing out, unfortunately Next don't have anything suitable for work so I went to the cheapo little shoe shop inside the main building and bought some boots with good cleated soles for £15. Even if I find something else that I wear more, these will be good for the snowy weather - they're warm too, a bit too warm today with the summer temperatures we've had.

Tomorrow I have sushi to make. Have decided to just make the one batch, it usually yields about 50-60 pieces which should be fine as it's all towards lunch. And I might not include carrot, which might be a first.

Sushi & Stargazing

Well I'm still here and so is work, busy but things got done and are getting done. In an effort to create something to look forward to, I made sushi this evening - delicious, tried including mushrooms for the first time, but next time I need something with a stronger flavour like shittake maybe.

Because I left work a few minutes early and got started as soon as I came home, I managed to get it all completed before Stargazing Live began. Completely awesome tonight, Tim Peake was a guest, and there was a recording from October or November when Brian Cox spoke to the US astonauts on the ISS (Doug Wheelock, Shannon Walker, Scott Kelly). I was also LOLing cos Jonathan Ross is the programme's resident noob, he was in the studio tonight and said about how the pictures from the major global telescopes were so awesome, it was a bit underwhelming in a way to then see Jupiter or M31 or whatever through a standard back garden telescope, and Dara O'Briain's face was like thunder, I wondered what he'd have said had they not been on live TV.

Sushi & Stuff

I am trying to keep busy as in "normal" busy in an effort to sort out my sleep schedule, which has been totally thrown for a loop. I need to be up at 7am for work on Tuesday 4th, given that last night I got to sleep some time after 6am this morning, I think it's not too soon to try and put things right. So, today, I made sushi.

I'm going to try & get some better pics of the Amaryllis with my real camera rather than my iPhone. I'll upload to Flickr if I do, you can see my full Flickr photostream here.

Even More Sushi

Day 315 I made another load of sushi this evening:

Even More Sushi

I forgot that less is more with Philadelphia, and made some with loads of Philly which then mostly squished out. But I did learn that a few chilli flakes are an excellent addition - strong flavours are good in home-made sushi it seems. I used loads of sundried tomatoes in this batch.

I had some pieces, as well as all the raggedy ends and the ones which fell apart when slicing, so I'm now full of sushi. Dad's had some, he was very impressed, I think there's 35 pieces left so that's plenty for lunch plus enough to share around at work.

EDIT: A few pieces fell apart while transporting to boxes (the seafood stick fell out leaving a Polo-like ring of sushi rice) & I pinched a couple more pieces, so will take some to work for lunch and leave some here for Dad or whoever wants some.

Day 284 I made sushi again this evening:

More Homemade Sushi

The verdict: again not bad at all, need to ensure rolls are wrapped tightly enough. Use a serrated knife to slice rolls. Also found that Philadelphia is a nice idea but can be tricky, and sundried tomato is totally awesome in sushi. This makes 18 pieces for dinner (not counting all the bits I've picked at) and 20 pieces for lunch tomorrow (that sounds a lot but most of them are small).

Am now watching Swing Kids, cos I wanted (a) Robert Sean Leonard; (b) awesome cool music; and (c) emo-RSL.
