Summer Ending

Not sure when autumn officially starts, but I think today is the last day of summer in a way. The schools start back tomorrow, which means I can no longer take the relaxed attitude towards getting up, getting ready and going out to work that I've had for the past few weeks. Pedestrians and traffic will be back in great numbers.

Also it's one week until my uncle arrives from Australia for a two-week visit. They'll all be decamping to Cornwall for a week during the visit, so I'll get the place to myself for a bit, but the visit itself was only sprung on me a week ago, I don't know how long it's been planned for. My concern is getting enough sleep during the weekdays my uncle is here - the neighbourhood dogs' recent tendencies to bark late into the night, coupled with my uncle's jetlagged early rising mean less hours for me to get a decent night's sleep. I hope both can be contained to a minimum.

Am hoping to take some time off while they're all away, but this month we have major changes at work and it's also blood donation time in a couple of weeks, so there's limited flexibility for taking time off. However, Fridays are more fully available again as we've had notice from our Yoga teacher that classes aren't going to restart after the summer break - not surprising, I think it was getting to a point where she wasn't making any money from us, too many people had dropped out for health reasons or long-term leave or had left the organisation. Her company's classes are generally held around my area, so I'm going to see what she has on and when. I'd like to go to Kettlebell classes, she used to teach them but had to find another venue, if they're back on again and not on a Wednesday I might sign up.

It's also definitely the end of Summer because the Autumn TV programming is starting up. This includes QI, which is back next Friday, despite the first episode having Lee Mack on the panel. Ugh, he is not funny at all. He's like the one in a new crowd of people you meet who thinks he's "the funny one" when actually he's just very annoying and totally unfunny.

Autumn Tree

Day 305 Took my car in for its MOT & service today, which it passed. The place I go to is a couple of miles from work, so I drop it off and then walk up to work, which is a pain cos the last bit is uphill and because I'm not used to it I'm sweaty and yeuch for the rest of the day. But I did see some nice autumn trees, including this one, which was near the dealership:

Twitter is making me sad. Quite apart from feeling like I'm the only space person on Earth who isn't gathering for the (delayed) tweetup in Florida (all the Space Tweeps tweeting 'OMG I met this astronaut, that astronaut, OMG it's Camilla/Nicole/Ron/Swanny' etc), all the vitriol that's been fired at Stephen Fry is making my angry and worried. Angry, cos it's from people who ought to know better (and newspapers who ought to have an understanding of the Disability Discrimination Act maybe) and worried because this has been a big year for Stephen Fry, and perhaps not all good. I hope he is surrounded well by people who care for him. I don't mind not hearing from him on Twitter but I would like to believe he's happy, which I'm not convinced is the case right now.

Autumn = Fall

Day 301 This is why autumn is called fall!

Autumn = Fall

This is the look our car park at work will be wearing for the next few weeks. Similar to our garden, which has brown and red leaves, such a beautiful burnished bright red, I will try and make autumn leaves from the garden a daily pic soon.

My head it mostly OK now, it was a bit squirly still this morning, breakfast of seeded toast wasn't quite enough but the Double Decker proved to be an excellent remedy. Finished work early because the Internet went down not long after 3pm, a major fault occurring on the part of our ISP with no word on the how & when. Not a lot I can do without the Internet, so once I'd done that, drunk some coffee and played a game of Scrabble, I came home. And I have a day off tomorrow, which will probably be spent in town rather than Birmingham.

Autumn Leaves

Day 294 As it was sunny, I thought I'd better share the autumn leaves as my pic of the day before the leaves go past their autumnal prime:

Autumn Leaves

Had another cake today, another friend brought in cupcakes for her birthday. I had a pecan caramel cupcake (with squidgy stuff in the middle) which was so sweet it made my teeth ache. It was delicious.

BTW is anyone else having problems installing a massive Windows update? Something 156MB which I can't work out how important it is. I've not come across most of the programs it mentions in the blurb.

I created a Flickr account to hold the pics I took today of the autumn leaves. Here's a preview:

The full set of autumn pics can be found here. If you check my Flickr homepage you'll see I've also uploaded some pics of my 10th anniversary flowers from work and last month's astronaut photos. Hope you like!
