Street View Snapshots

I've decided to create a new Tumblr dedicated to the best images I can find from Google Street View. Please visit and follow my new Tumblr:

Street View Snapshots

You may see some images repeated from my regular Tumblr (http://124daisies.tumblr.com) but I'm hoping this will be more select. I've also set it to allow submissions, so please submit your Street View images (but please note the little guidelines on the Submit page).

I should also point out that this Tumblr has no connection to Google Street View or any other part of Google, it's just a fan site because so much of what the Street View cameras have brought to us is brimming with awesomeness of one kind or another. I hope you enjoy.

This was on my Tumblr dash, but I remember (not too long ago) these things going round LJ. So when I saw this set of questions, as posted by the lovely Molegirl, I thought it was time for a revival of sorts. So, pick a handful of numbers and I'll answer.

1-50 )
And I hope everyone had a good Thanksgiving, if celebrated. All the tweets I saw from US-based friends made me feel very industrious and hardworking, with yesterday & today being ordinary working days in the UK.

Uploading that image to Photobucket, I was surprised I hadn't added a widescreen image before. I've had this laptop for over three years now.

Tumblr news is that I have 181 followers, as opposed to 152 blogs I am following. Lots of Oregon pics recently, I find the place looks so magical and enchanted. All the Oregon posts here, the rest of my Tumblr here.

If you follow my Tumblr, my apologies for taking over your Dashboard feed this weekend. I decided on Thursday I wanted my archive to look awesome and colour-themed, so I've been posting like crazy for the past couple of days, 20-30 images representing each colour. I started with red, then brown, orange, white, black, yellow, green, blue, and purple, and tomorrow will complete the set with magenta and pink.

It has had the desired effect in that my Tumblr archive looks pretty awesome, but last night I got a warning saying I was approaching my daily upload limit. Luckily a Twitterfriend advised that this was an upload limit, and reblogs didn't count, so I started reblogging in earnest and also set up a second Tumblr to act as a feed for the main one to keep the official upload limit on 124daisies down. I named the new Tumblr Suburban Astronaut, which I now think is far cooler a name than I initially intended for this to be. I'm only following my main Tumblr with this one and don't expect to be following much else, so it might be a good one to keep to shove stuff up to at lunchtimes while I'm at work, should I feel inclined - I won't go into my main Tumblr Dashboard at work as too many people I follow like to post the occasional pic of Dita Von Teese wearing nothing but stilettos and a diamond ring and they can't be filtered out.

After tomorrow, I expect to be back to my usual combination of space, Fry & Laurie, scenery, architecture and railway stations postings. So by Monday you should be safe to go back in, or to refollow me. Thank you for your patience.

Tumblr Fail

Were you aware that Tumblr only gives you monthly post totals up until the point when your overall total reaches 3000? I found that out earlier this week, when I passed 3000. I can see an overall total but I liked having the monthly totals. Now they're all gone.

In trying to see if I could rescue or recalculate this information, thanks to the direction of a friend I found my Tumblr Messages Inbox. I didn't know I had one. I've replied to the two major messages (one from a friend looking for copies of artwork originally lost when a computer died, one from a community inviting me to be a contributor - hope I'm not too late for that one). Problem is, there are no dates on the messages so I don't know how long they've been sitting in the inbox for - all I can guess at is they were there before Christmas.

Karaokegal - the short answer to the question you'd left in my inbox is I don't know. What you said about the Queen creating lordships (or whatever the correct term is) sounds technically correct, but with the reformation of the House of Lords I'm a bit hazy on what the current situation is. These days, I just marvel at the fact that Floella Benjamin is in the House of Lords (even tho she's officially a Lib Dem), a situation which would have seemed quite odd not so long ago.

Hopefully I will remember how to access messages in the future, now I know they exist. In trying to explore the mysteries of Tumblr further, I managed to log out of Tumblr but thankfully I got back in quickly enough. Maybe a miracle will happen and Tumblr will become as easy to manage as it is to post to, with lots of attractive layouts built for screen resolutions over 800x600 to choose from. We can only dream.

Still Here

I noticed I haven't updated for over a week, so am just popping up to say I'm still here :) I've been posting lots of pics and stuff to Tumblr, and of course I've been tweeting.

Much of my thinking recently has been about the final Space Shuttle mission, which is due to launch on Friday. I'm hoping it all launches & lands to schedule because I'm suddenly socially busy this month and if the mission does go as planned, it will be of minimum interference. What I don't want is to have to choose between watching the landing & my Olympics interview, which could happen if the launch is delayed. Aside from that, I'm trying not to think too much about how sad it will be that it's the last shuttle mission, and that it feels like everyone from the Space Tweep Society will be in Florida for the launch except for me (& Ron Garan, but I don't think he's sad about his vantage point).

Hot Cross Buns

A few words about hot cross buns available from popular retailers, based on my samplings in recent weeks:

1. Sainsburys are the nicest, plenty of variety of dried fruit within. Makes the buns full of flavour, very moreish.
2. Greggs are OK, light in texture and almost like bread, probably needs toasting to bring out its flavours because it's a bit bland untoasted.
3. Tescos - not bad, third of the three but I wouldn't turn them down, it's just that they're nothing special.

Am currently tootling round San Francisco on Google Earth & Google Street View. It all looks so amazing and beautiful. Check out my Tumblr for pics.

Zumba on Wednesday night was really good, no new stuff, just the Merengue-ish routine I've done only once before, which I don't like because it's clearly designed for people with flatter chests than I have, but at least it's over quickly. My hamstrings were sore yesterday (one still isn't 100% today) cos I was trying to show off how I know all the routines and I'm really good at them to the newbies. Apart from the aches and the out-of-breathiness moments, I seriously totally love Zumba.

One week until Space Shuttle Endeavour launches for the final time. I can't believe it's come round so quickly, I know Atlantis will have a final mission in early summer but it really feels like the finale is upon us. And I know we'll find out soon enough, but I just can't imagine what it will feel like when the space shuttle program is completed.

Am in a Google Earth mood again, and have been posting lots of pics to my Tumblr from Google Earth & Street View. So, if you fancy a very slow history lesson (currently of Birmingham), punctuated by the occasional picture of partially-naked astronauts, please check out my Tumblr at http://124daisies.tumblr.com
