Day 235 Two pics today - both food-themed, both from work. Firstly, a big box of cooking apples appeared on the table in the staff kitchen, brought in by our Regional Manager from his "orchard" of four trees:

Apples From A Four-Tree Orchard

The second pic is of a home-made blueberry muffin (which was delicious), made by our Education Manager, made with blueberries he picked from near his home:

Blueberry Muffin

Good to see the bounties of the Earth at work, even if they are indications that the end of summer is beginning. As was also indicated by the mass downpour we had today.

Day 230 Today is Mum's birthday. I'm grabbing a slice of birthday cake while there's some left :D

Happy Birthday Mum

She spent the late afternoon with her granddaughter, who apparently slept the whole time :) My sister is doing better, still no word on how long they want to keep them in, but they're both definitely progressing well.

Breakfast In Town

Day 212 This was my reward for getting up early and spending lots of time at the Post Office: an iced coffee (with cream) and a mediterranean panini:

Breakfast In Town

I got up early (early for me, for a Saturday) so I could go into town to renew my driving licence. That turned into a 40-minute session (split by a call to the DVLA to get my licence number, because I've lost the licence card I should be handing in) but we got there in the end. I decided to track down a Costa Coffee, now that I have my Costa card, and there's one upstairs at the little Waterstones so I had my breakfast while looking out the window over the precinct, which was very nice. I had a few items to get - Mum's birthday present, plus a few toiletries - before coming home, I didn't want to linger cos either I spend money I don't need to spend, or if I don't spend money I'm just ambling round pointlessly. When I got home I got a speech from Dad about losing important things and carelessness - in his world, he and no-one else makes mistakes or drops stuff or whatever, everyone else is careless or clumsy or thoughtless or stupid or whatever. But thankfully my licence is now sorted, I just have to wait for it to come through. And I have a day off on Monday :)

Pocket Diary

Day 203 After work I had a 'fun' time shopping. It wasn't bad, just a bit unusual. It started with getting some petrol, which was OK except there were queues because there was only one person on duty in the kiosk (another woman came on duty just as I was at the paydesk) so that took a little while longer than it could have. I then went round the little shopping centre near work, got some DVD envelopes from Wilkinsons and a 2011 pocket diary from the cheap card shop:

Pocket Diary

This is the pic for this entry because I have Plans. Writing plans, for next year, something for every day, and I can get started on the prep work now, and I thought this would be a convenient way to plan rather than do something electronically. No, I'm not telling you what the plans are yet. Nearer the time I will.

I went all round Tesco although I had only gone in for three items: blank DVDs, Diet Sprite or 7-Up, and sushi. I also bought some things that Sainsburys don't sell (plain flavour yoghurt bars and fruit flavour Club biscuits) and some jalapeno hummous that I've been thinking about since I saw my friend eating some. I made it back into my car without getting rained on and headed for home, and just as I was leaving the car park:

BUGGER! I forgot to get Sprite/7-Up!

Curses. I was driving home, and thought if I don't get some I'll be thinking all weekend about how nice a glass of Sprite/7-Up would be and I didn't get any. So I stopped at Sainsburys and got the last three bottles of Diet Sprite (they were all out of Diet 7-Up). And yay, I now have Sprite and sushi and it's yoga tomorrow and I'm really looking forward to it. Hope that's not an ominous sign.

Turkish Delight

Day 201 We have new goodies at work - these are from my friend who has just returned from a holiday in Turkey:

Turkish Delight

Real Turkish Delight is very nice, unlike the rubbish that Frys insist on wrapping in cheap chocolate. Always go for the proper stuff, folks.

We also had afternoon tea today - one of our managers was awesome at a conference in Yorkshire recently so she was sent an afternoon tea gift box from Bettys. I even had a cup of tea, although I only managed about a quarter of a cup before admitting defeat and replacing it with coffee, although the fruitcake was very nice - not too sweet, over-sweetness is a perennial problem with fruitcake in my experience. We also have a pack of shortbread biscuits which went unopened this afternoon but probably won't survive long.

It's Raining

Day 193 It finally rained! More is forecast for during the week, it's the first we've had for a while - note that none of the play at Wimbledon was interrupted by rain. It's collected on the roof of my car as it's out of the carport and on the drive for the week, while my uncle's hire car is in the carport - as I'm out first and in last during the day it makes sense.

It's Raining

They had the oldies' gathering today, there was lots of food left (thankfully not all of it was made from pork) so I've had two little cheesecakes, a little chocolate eclair, and some pizza. And there's chocolate Swiss roll left :P

Custard Cream

Day 186 A Custard Cream. Because it's Monday morning, with invoices to raise on a tempramental database and my friend M is on hols for two weeks. So some biscuity comfort is required, and none more comforting than a custard cream.

Day 173 Fishcakes and salad - one of my usual evening meals, except that this time the salad leaves are fresh out of the ground. I'd just come downstairs to sort my food out when Dad came in with a handful of salad leaves he'd just picked. A quick wash and tearing, and they were on my plate:

Just Out Of The Ground

Poppadoms

Day 172 Poppadoms. Yum.

Poppadoms

I bought two packs of plain poppadoms, I thought it might be good to avoid spicy stimulants until my lips are back to normal (they're a little better today) so I'll have to get the flavoured ones another time. Something to look forward to, I love flavoured poppadoms. I love plain poppadoms too. They're easier to eat at home, cos when you have them in an Indian restaurant I always feel like I could consume the whole pile in a frenzied Taz-like whirl, all the aromas you get in and around Indian restaurants, I can't go near one without feeling hungry.

Sushi For Lunch

Day 162 This was my lunch, purchased this morning at Tesco before work:

Sushi For Lunch

Not the best lunchtime sushi (that honour goes to Pret a Manger vegetarian) but very nice. Also purchased was some PJs for Dad for Father's Day - there's not a lot I can reasonably get him (alcohol, chocolate, aftershave, cufflinks & ties all being out, and no more easy-to-reach bookstores) but according to Mum he's wanting for new PJs. After I bought them I noticed it was a pack of two sets, I just picked them because they were the only non-football ones they had. Was laden with bags going into work as I'd brought in my black Converses to loan out to a workfriend who sprained her ankle a few days ago and doesn't have any comparable footwear - the Converses were really good for my sprained ankle last year. She put them on and everyone was all "OMG so cool!" but already she is limping less in them than in her previous shoes.

Fresh Carrots

Day 157 Dad picked these carrots about an hour ago. They're very nice, as evidenced by the half-carrot in the middle of the pic.

Carrots, Picked Today

The long straight carrot was grown inside an old Pringles container, the rest were in a regular vegetable trough. They're from a pack of mixed seeds of carrot varieities which are known for being paler colours than the usual vivid orange, and they taste a little lighter too, but still very carrotty.

Day 146 Every time I visit Marks & Spencers Food Hall I look out for these. They come in a pack of ten, two each of five box designs, and are packed to the brim with raisins.

Raisins

And Atlantis is home! Quite possibly home for good. Luckily I got to see the landing via NASA TV. So beautiful, and such a perfect showcase landing. Will probably post more on Atlantis separately, but for now enjoy the coverage at the BBC Website.

Pringles

Day 145 I should be playing on the Wii, or finding chores to do, or something more productive than this. Instead I'm on the laptop to read fanfic, Wikipedia articles and look at space shuttle pictures while eating Pringles.

Day 140 Crackers. Cos I wanted them. Been sleeping most of the evening, stupid neuralgia :(

Crackers

Left-to-right: water biscuit, Jacobs cream cracker, cheese cracker. Yum.

Bourneville Cookies

Day 139 I made cookies!

Bourneville Cookies

They have height rather than width, but they're very nice. I found an easy cookie recipe online, and I added Bourneville chocolate to the mix. Gave some to my sister & her partner cos they came over this evening, I have a boxful to take into work, and these are left for the rest of us.

Tree In Flower

Day 127 To remind us that it's still spring out there, whatever government we will eventually get - this is one of the trees in the back garden:

Tree In Flower

We have had meetings today at work, and of course the home-catered food for lunch, and we spent half an hour shifting boxes for another team in return for getting the meeting room for longer. But it felt like we spent most of the day watching the results come in (they're all in now, apart from one constituency which will vote at the end of the month because one candidate died during the election campaign) and trying not to get too specifically doom-and-gloom. Whoever gets in, government budget cuts will affect us because people will have less money to spend on things like the services we provide. And it's possible that we could get ministers from any of the three main parties, and could be dealing with ministers from more than one party. Plenty of wait-and-see, but I think my hopes of finally getting an ezine out that's full of actual Things Happening aren't going to be met for a while.

Meal Deal

Day 121 I went back to Marks & Spencers today to get some more T-shirts, thought it prudent while they've got plenty left in my size. Bought 1 each in red, light blue, spring green and turquoise-green. I also went to Boots to stock up on stuff - Beconase, pressed powder, foldup hairbrush - and some food. They sell sandwiches & lunchtime stuff, I find the quality varies depending what you go for, but they usually have sushi. They have a long-standing thing called Meal Deal - where you can buy a salad or sandwich, drink and snack (eg crisps or a cereal bar) for £2.99. I bought this lot - individually it would have cost me £4.79:
