tourmalineDay 307 Had a crappy day at work - a depressive day rather than a negative work day. So I left early and went to the shopping place. Lots of Christmas items in store now, including Christmas catalogues - I picked up one from Boots:
The Boots Christmas Catalogue has always been the iconic one for me. I remember some time in the mid-1980s we had one about the house, I'd looked through it countless times and chose a present for my friend from it - a hair gel set, one pot of styling gel and one pot of glitter gel, with a glittery hair clip - and bought it when we went into town on the Wednesday evening (the usual late night Christmas shopping experience in my city), and also received the make-up brushes set I'd seen and coveted in the same catalogue. Later in the 1990s when they started to sell more cookware and food items I loved the gift sets - for Mexican food, for sushi making, for curry making - I never received one (or even asked for one) but I loved the idea that you could receive something like that and then use it for years on end. Then in 1996, even my hateful experience of working in Boots for Christmas didn't dampen the magic of the Boots Christmas Gift Guide, although that may be related to my working in a small branch store rather than the big glittery main store in our city. And now I have this year's catalogue to look through. Hope it's a good one. In accompaniment, I have plenty of yummy M&S food to choose from - sushi, sweets, crisps, chocolate, cheese, and a salad for lunch tomorrow.
