My wireless router died last night. So I had to get another at lunchtime. Far from the simple setup it promised, it took an hour on the phone with the woman at the helpline to get it working.

But it works now. Please keep your fingers crossed (as I am) that it stays working, cos no Internet = no fun.

And it's QI tonight, right? All the "excitement" of routers and snow days I've barely given it a thought :)

Did you change your layout? Very bright and cheery!

I love how they always say it'll be so easy and it ends up being an assembling nightmare.

Well, the previous router was an earlier equivalent of this new one, and it was simple to set up, took about 15 minutes. But this one works now, my laptop reconnects the wireless signal automatically after operating for 12 hours, and it did that fine. And this setup is properly secure which wasn't the case for the old one - but then back in 2004-2005 no-one talked about the need to secure wireless connections, we were still marvelling at being able to use them.

I changed my layout after Christmas, I had one of the Christmas designs so it needed a change. This one is one I quite liked and nearly had a few other times, so I went with this straight away. I thought it was nice & cheery.

No internet-BLERGH!

Seriously, now that we have our wireless thing, I go all wonky and ballistic if it acts up for like two seconds. Pathetic addict that I am.

I'm exactly the same. Even if it dips below 54Mbps, which I think is way faster than the Internet connection that gets to our house, I'm all concerned that it's about to die forever, and tend to open loads of pages (usually BBC website, something not dull but not what I'd usually choose to read) just to make sure they actually open.

And thankfully this one is properly secured! The original one was set up in early 2005 when no-one talked about securing them. But the woman on the helpdesk talked me through absolutely everything, which was good cos it took a while for the laptop to connect properly. Touch wood & fingers crossed it's all OK now.
