Sushi For Lunch
Friday, June 11th, 2010 06:34 pmDay 162 This was my lunch, purchased this morning at Tesco before work:

Not the best lunchtime sushi (that honour goes to Pret a Manger vegetarian) but very nice. Also purchased was some PJs for Dad for Father's Day - there's not a lot I can reasonably get him (alcohol, chocolate, aftershave, cufflinks & ties all being out, and no more easy-to-reach bookstores) but according to Mum he's wanting for new PJs. After I bought them I noticed it was a pack of two sets, I just picked them because they were the only non-football ones they had. Was laden with bags going into work as I'd brought in my black Converses to loan out to a workfriend who sprained her ankle a few days ago and doesn't have any comparable footwear - the Converses were really good for my sprained ankle last year. She put them on and everyone was all "OMG so cool!" but already she is limping less in them than in her previous shoes.

Happy Birthdays!
Wednesday, April 28th, 2010 08:25 pmDay 118 Today is both my Dad's birthday and my friend's boy's birthday. This was on the front of my Dad's card:

He has promised to wear it :)
Friend's boy received clothes from me, and Lego from everyone else - their house is covered in the stuff. And I got to have a little hold of birthday boy's baby cousin who twists and turns like a twisty turny thing but has such pretty eyes.

Art Deco Teal
Monday, April 19th, 2010 09:29 pmYay I changed my LJ layout :) I've always liked the Art Deco layouts, but I resisted for ages cos it felt like everyone was using them at one point. But recently I've been feeling that the previous layout was rather plain and that maybe it was time to experiment with something a bit sunnier.
My friend C, who I feared was caught up in the travel delays with the volcano ash, was back at work today as planned - they had Eurostar bookings and didn't know about the problems until they turned up on Friday afternoon for the Eurostar.
Discovery didn't land today cos of bad weather at KSC - bad enough for the STA to be unable to take off to investigate the weather due to fog. So it should land tomorrow as the weather forecast for both KSC and Edwards are looking good, but it means I won't get to see the landing as I'm in a meeting all morning and then we're out at lunch. Unless the restaurant has free wi-fi. It's unfortunate that for reasons of Ku problems and time zoneage this has been a difficult mission to follow closely, cos together they've been a really awesome crew. And it's the final seven-person shuttle crew, so the last time there will be thirteen people together in space till who knows when. And four women together in space, and two Japanese astronauts together in space. And I'm looking forward to seeing Clay Anderson on Dancing With The Stars next year :D

Get 'Em Before They Float Away
Saturday, February 27th, 2010 06:28 pmAfter seeing a post from
hithah about LJ giving away free bunches of balloons in its V-Gift store, I wandered over to look, and managed to purchase some for people before they ran out. Unfortunately the store would give me error messages when trying to send balloons to some people, and only in some cases would it eventually let me send.
So, my apologies to anyone who missed out, instead here's some balloons of a slightly different (but still fun) sort:

Day 44 I visited my friend today, it was her birthday yesterday, she'd been out for a meal with friends and the food was so plentiful and delicious there wasn't room for birthday cake, so it got cut today. This is what it looked like before cutting:

The verdict afterwards? Delicious. Just chocolatey enough.
I bought her a Champneys gift set (the blue one, kind of spa/aqua scents I think) and a blue-tone scarf, a light one for accessorising with in the spring rather than a warm winter scarf, which she loved.
