Commonwealth Games
Sunday, October 3rd, 2010 03:00 pmDay 276 Today is the opening ceremony of the Commonwealth Games in Delhi.
I know there's been lots of stuff in the news about construction problems, but now things are underway. And I want to enjoy the Games like I usually do. They started the opening ceremony with music & dance, as is usual, including a really cute seven-year-old boy on the tabla, first time he saw the cameras were on him his face lit up into a big smile and he started shaking his head, his curly hair bouncing. Thing is, the music - the traditional stuff and pop music from the country - always has a familiar feel to me, as so many of my friends growing up were from Indian families. My friends would play Indian pop music alongside chart stuff, and their parents would often have more traditional or older popular music playing (this was in the days before Zee TV and so on). I know a lot of top-name British athletes aren't going because their sports are still in the middle of world ranking tournaments etc (cycling and gymnastics in particular) but I hope it will still be a good Games.
