I had been thinking for a few days about what I could do at the weekend. I've been in a happy mood recently, so hiding in my room all weekend with the laptop wouldn't necessarily cut it as a good two days well spent. But of course, the weather would have other ideas, and I really should keep going with my studies now I'm into a rhythm there.

So, today I've stayed in and done some more coursework, for which I feel much accomplished. Which means for the rest of the day, I'm free to play :)





Allesley Village, on the edge of Coventry (heading towards Birmingham). There's a hotel to the left, and a tiny narrow road leading to a church on the right. Very nice, but on the costly side. Gets a bit cheaper as you go further up the road and pass the shops and council flats, and the whole shebang is surrounded by commuter roads. The filter here is my own creation, a Paint Shop Pro script called Hand Tinted Postcard.



Berkswell Village Green. Berkswell is to the west of Coventry, close to the main railway line to Birmingham (The West Coast Main Line) - the nearest station is called Berkswell but is actually nearer to Balsall Common. Looks very nice, but not the place to expect a fast & frequent bus service from. Once again, one of my own filters, this script is called Textured Photo.



Inside the ruins of Kenilworth Castle. The castle had its heyday in the time of Elizabeth I, but wasn't well-known enough (ie wasn't the scene of scandal) to get a mention in Blackadder II, although one fireworks display reputedly cost enough in today's money to make the US TV Olympic broadcasting rights look like a super bargain. A very interesting place, I must go back and take some digital photos. (This also has the Textured Photo filter)



The Gatehouse, Abbey Fields, Kenilworth. Today, Abbey Fields is a vast expanse of sweeping greenery between Kenilworth's old main street (which leads to the castle) and the modern town centre. The original Abbey was established in the 12th century and was destroyed with the Dissolution of the Monestaries, leaving just the gatehouse and a barn. There's now a church nearby, the fields also hosts a swimming pool & leisure centre, a lake, flowerbeds, and a war memorial as well as plenty of space for swathes of kids to run round in. This pic has the Oil Painting filter from Virtual Painter layered within.

Thanks for posting. :) I like the last picture especially. I really must learn what layers and filters (and brushes and textures) are - they look fun to use.
