An evening out and back again

Tonight we had a good evening out from work, and then I had things to do when I got back. Glad to be back, but the stuff to do was meh.
Background: after several instances of Christmas lunches and saying "We should go out together more often" and then nothing until the next Christmas lunch, we actually started going out occasionally last year. Due to various illnesses and leave, tonight was my first actual evening out since the tradition started, and it was the first time at this current venue. The venue being a 20-year-old pub-restaurant which is well-known for its amazing Indian buffet - and it was completely packed, which I've never seen before anywhere on a Monday. It was mostly our team from work (timed for a Monday as we have our monthly team meetings on Mondays) plus one team member's new fiance, another team member's partner, and another colleague who moved to a different team a while ago and her 13-year-old son, who came to experience his first curry night.
The food was amazing - we all went for the buffet, I refrained from also ordering naan bread which turned out to be a good move as no-one managed to eat all of theirs. The 13-year-old was telling us about the young journalist competition he's just won with one of the local rugby teams - his review of a recent game will be in the next fixture programme, and he's got free tickets to the remaining home matches, a behind-the-scenes tour, and will be invited to one of the team's press conferences, and a few other things I've forgotten.
It was a good night but I was keen to be home, so after dropping a colleague off (at his new-ish home) I came straight home rather than do my usual food shopping. I came home to no lamp light on (thankfully because I'd not switched the timer on correctly) and to do my online meter readings. These had me a bit nervous until I went back to the site and saw that the previous figures they gave were estimates, and that one of the meters isn't actually going backwards. My other concern is that with everyone reducing their prices I might be stuck on a fixed-price fixed-term tariff and not be able to take advantage of this, especially as my suppliers are giving the biggest reductions (and the failtastic previous suppliers who threatened me with legal action for not paying that bill they told me not to pay are giving the lowest reduction, so extra good riddance to them).
It started snowing when I was driving home. Hopefully it won't amount to anything major, but it's supposed to stay cold for a good while yet. I'll be glad when winter is over.
