The Celebrations

So on Thursday I turned 40, and on Friday my best friends got married. And it was all lovely.
Thursday was nice and low-key, we went out for a very nice lunch at a nearby pub - I had salmon & veggies followed by a warm chocolate brownie and ice cream. Also there were my Mum & Dad, my sister, and my friends, who both admitted to pre-wedding nerves. My Dad and my sister took advantage of the seasonal menu at the pub to have venison and wild boar & chorizo burger respectively (they also do very good vegetarian meals btw). My friends gave me a silver necklace for my birthday, while my family all gave various amounts towards my tablet (am currently deciding which Nexus to get). My friends also bought a bunch of balloons, which we took home - my sister brought my niece round and she loved the balloons so much, she was waving them about and her hair was sticking up in all directions with all the static.
The wedding was wonderful too. The ceremony took place in the registry office, with the reception at a hotel just outside the city. Despite the cold it was a lovely day. Sadly the groom's father wasn't well enough to attend more than the ceremony, so there was only the bride's parents at the reception. But everything else went well, the staff at the hotel were very good and the food was nice too. My friend's dress was lovely, a strapless textured satin-style gathered to one side at the waist, with seed pearls scattered round the waist, and with a matching shoulder wrap - which was much needed in the cold. The groom and their two boys wore matching suits with blue & white waistcoats and sky blue ties. They didn't have the usual wedding party of Best Man, bridesmaids etc - the bride's brother and sister-in-law helped with many of the arrangements (& are having the boys to stay with them during the honeymoon) and served as witnesses, the bride's brother also gave the equivalent of the Best Man's speech with help from the children in the family. Not quite the traditional wedding set-up, but then most weddings happen rather earlier than 23 years after the bride and groom start dating.
I could go on loads more about the wedding reception, the dancing, but I will just say it was all so much fun, such a lovely day, and a genuine thrill to be there.
