I seem to be cross-stitching again. This is due to the fact that since my friends said they weren't asking for wedding presents, I thought I'd stitch them a wedding sampler or similar. I found a Valentine alphabet and set out their names, but am doing a simplified version due to using higher-count fabric - ie the stitching will be smaller and more delicate so less room for fine details. I made a start this evening, having ventured out for supplies at lunchtime. I'm definitely out of practice but I hope that by keeping this simple it'll be OK, and that when it's completed I can stitch something for my niece for her birthday in the summer, as I was studying rather than stitching when she was born, so there was no birth sampler for her. Obviously a Toy Story picture would be ideal (must include both Woody and Buzz, ideally Jessie too) but it looks like the company that had all the rights to Disney & Pixar characters may have gone out of business as there was nothing to be found at Hobbycraft. If I can't get one, I'll find a nice alphabet pattern so I can stitch her name in bright letters.
In Sainsburys after work, I stopped to look at the current issue of The World Of Cross-Stitching, which I used to buy every (monthly) issue of between 1999 and 2002ish. This edition happens to be their 200th issue so I bought a copy. I will probably read it tomorrow. When I used to get the bus to & from work, it was something I bought on the way to or from work and read on the bus, happy times. I know it's quicker having the car but there are things that I miss from those days.
