Let The Games Begin

It took a while coming, but I am definitely excited about the Olympics now. My first summer Olympics on LJ, also my first on broadband and digital TV too (we went digital/broadband a couple of months after Athens). So, despite the time difference, I should be able to watch lots and watch what I want.

It's going to be a bit of a strange Games, I reckon. A bit lower-key than in previous years, perhaps. Because of all the stuff about the pollution, visibility (or lack thereof), and what the Chinese government have or haven't done. But also because the 2012 Games will be in the UK (I registered as a volunteer a couple of days ago), it's like we're all getting ready for those Games, and Beijing is therefore less of an event.

My current concern re all this has to do with the closing ceremony. You know when the Olympic flag is lowered, the host nation passes it to the IOC, then the IOC pass it to the hosts of the next Games? Well, thanks to the fuckheaded voters of London earlier this year our country will be represented in this very important moment by Boris Johnson. I hope he can count to eight and wave a flag properly.
