I Am Team GB

In celebration of our recent Olympic success, and in anticipation of Paralympic success, and in the hope of getting more people playing sport and getting active, today is I Am Team GB day, with events being held across the country, featuring various members of Team GB from Rio 2016 and before. I went to the one at the stadium near me, it was a good fest but there wasn't a great deal have-a-go stuff for adults - the only child-free opportunity was with the netball, which I signed up for, but they were running behind so it must have gone on without me. I did see the Team GB people arrive - Liam Heath and Jon Schofield (canoe sprint) wore their medals from Rio, and joined in stuff with the kids, such as the wall-climbing and the tennis. Kristian Thomas (gymnastics) joined in the tumbling with the kid's gymnastics club and got them all doing a Mexican wave but with a somersault instead of a wave. First time he did a tumbling sequence along the mat (somewhere between a crashmat and an inflatable mat) he overshot the end and landed on the crashmat right near me.

The other Olympian was Dame Kelly Holmes (athletics) and I queued up for the photo op, and had my photo took with her and Kristian Thomas:

It was also the first time I've been to the stadium, I didn't go during London 2012 (they hosted football preliminaries along with a handful of other places across the country) and I've never seen the football or rugby teams there. But it might be nice to, one day.

I took a day off work today, to visit the Herbert Art Gallery and Museum in the centre of Coventry - it's currently hosting an exhibition on Children's Television.

The Children's TV exhibition is touring other places after it finishes at the Herbert in September. See it if you can.

The Realms Of Fantasy

We saw the Dad's Army show this afternoon - my first time back at the Belgrade Theatre since I went with my cousin to see David Baddiel & Rob Newman on tour in 1992. The show was excellent, in the production Leslie Grantham (Private Walker) is being promoted as the 'big name', which I guess he is (the nearest anyone else gets to his level of fame is the actor playing Private Godfrey, who used to portray The Man From Del Monte in the adverts), but it's really an ensemble piece just as the TV show was. The first half - each half is two episodes - consists of two of the lost episodes, so it was good to 'see' them after reading about them (A Stripe for Frazer and The Loneliness Of The Long Distance Walker). I guess they've become rather legendary given their 'lost' status. The second half is another ep - Room At The Bottom - which apparently survives only in black & white, and The Deadly Attachment which is one of the best-known classic episodes of a sitcom ever. That was a little bizarre, because I practically know all the words - apparently at some performances the audience have been shouting out the lines (particularly That Line) to this ep.

Definitely a good show. It's making me think about what else is on at the theatre I could see.

It's gone really cold tonight. Yesterday we didn't get any of the mad rain, but some friends who live in South Warwickshire faced a long diverted drive home.

This picture was taken in Coventry, but I don't recognise it - it looks like it could be near the city centre, going by the car park and the churchy-type building in the background.

I'm watching a videotape of 8 hours worth of various QI eps I've taped since last winter, but I think one ep is duplicated :(

I've downloaded loads more 8bf plugins, and also a copy of VCW VicMan's Photo Editor, which I used to have on the old PC about four years ago. So lots of playing around with graphics filters, have about 400 interpretations of some rustic roses so far, and lots more to come.

It stopped raining enough for me to take some photos of the garden this afternoon. Took about 50 in 15 minutes.

My current lipsalve (Gator Gubba SPF15 Pineapple-Vanilla flavour) appears to have lasted forever, as I don't need to use it very often. Which would be fine if it was a nicer flavour.

Out of all the Emmy Nominations that House has garnered, the one I think most likely to win is David Morse for Outstanding Guest Appearance. But I REALLY REALLY REALLY hope Hugh wins too!!!
